Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced she will provide $1 million in discretionary funding to increase law enforcement services in unincorporated areas and communities in her district.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis month\u2019s busiest holiday shopping days are quickly approaching and crime is indisputably on the rise\u201d said\u00a0Supervisor Barger<\/strong>. \u201cThe recent smash-and-grab crime wave and various robberies are proof that criminals feel bold and untouchable \u2013 crimes are increasingly committed in the public eye. These funds will help provide more law enforcement patrols and presence in the communities I represent. Everyone deserves to feel safe whether they work in retail, are shopping for loved ones or simply enjoying time off at home.\u201d<\/p>\n The funding was lauded by\u00a0Sheriff Alex Villanueva<\/strong>, who stated, \u201cI would like to thank Supervisor Barger for her generous support.\u00a0 During a time when crime rates are up, this funding will contribute to the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department\u2019s tireless efforts towards keeping the public safe in the Fifth District.\u201d<\/p>\n Additional thanks was expressed by\u00a0James Wheeler, President of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs<\/strong>. \u201c\u201cIt\u2019s apparent that these criminals have no respect for property or human lives. A former police officer was shot dead in Oakland and countless numbers of people have been attacked,\u201d said Wheeler. \u201cTackling the rise in crime requires recognition that law enforcement plays a critical role in maintaining safety and order. Elected officials, law enforcement, and community leaders must send a renewed unified and clear message to the individuals who choose to commit these crimes \u2013 you will be apprehended and prosecuted. County Sheriff Department patrol stations that will receive funding are the Altadena, Crescenta Valley, Lancaster, Malibu\/Lost Hills, Palmdale, San Dimas, Santa Clarita Valley and Temple stations.<\/p>\n
