{"id":45608,"date":"2022-03-03T13:09:26","date_gmt":"2022-03-03T21:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=45608"},"modified":"2022-03-03T13:09:26","modified_gmt":"2022-03-03T21:09:26","slug":"barger-voices-support-for-governors-care-court-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=45608","title":{"rendered":"Barger Voices Support for Governor\u2019s Care Court Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger today released the following statement in response to Governor Newsom\u2019s unveiling of his Care Court plan:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cI commend Governor Newsom\u2019s efforts to bring healing to the indigent individuals living with debilitating mental illness on our streets. We need a coordinated and consistent approach to help these individuals, and Care Court is poised to deliver that through the courts system.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Certainly, the onus of providing comprehensive treatment will fall on counties\u2019 shoulders. This will require an investment in resources and infrastructure. I look forward to working through those details when the time comes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">But what\u2019s crystal clear right now is that severe mental illness doesn\u2019t resolve itself. Until we take a firm approach, the homelessness crisis and suffering will continue to grow.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I have spent years advocating for changes to the state\u2019s mental health laws. Care Court provides a new pathway to providing humane services to our most vulnerable population &#8212; an approach rooted in today\u2019s reality.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">How many times have we walked by someone who is clearly having a psychotic episode, witnessing a crisis without being able to help?
