{"id":45648,"date":"2022-03-03T13:12:22","date_gmt":"2022-03-03T21:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=45648"},"modified":"2022-03-03T16:12:54","modified_gmt":"2022-03-04T00:12:54","slug":"senate-gop-pushes-to-nix-emergency-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=45648","title":{"rendered":"Senate GOP pushes to nix emergency status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senate Republicans on Thursday passed a resolution to nix the coronavirus national public health emergency, their second win in as many days amid Democratic absences.<\/p>\n<p>Senators voted 48-47 on the resolution, spearheaded by\u00a0<strong>Sen.\u00a0Roger Marshall<\/strong>\u00a0(R-Kan.), a day after they were also able to pass a measure to nix\u00a0President Biden&#8217;s vaccine requirement for health care workers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would ask him to listen to the people and end this declaration of emergency,&#8221; Marshall said in an appeal to Biden ahead of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Both votes were party line, but Republicans were able to exploit Democratic absences. Three Democratic senators were absent \u2014 Sens.\u00a0Mark Kelly\u00a0(Ariz.),\u00a0Dianne Feinstein\u00a0(Calif.) and\u00a0Alex Padilla\u00a0(Calif.) \u2014 compared to two absences for Republicans \u2014 Sens.\u00a0James Inhofe\u00a0(Okla.) and\u00a0Richard Burr\u00a0(N.C.) \u2014 effectively giving the GOP a majority in the chamber.<\/p>\n<p>But the resolution, like the vaccine mandate vote, is going nowhere in the Democratic-controlled House.
