Luis Guti\u00e9rrez\u00a0(D-Ill.), who\u2019s leading the charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt is clear to us that he is unfit to be president of the United States of America,\u201d Guti\u00e9rrez said\u00a0Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Guti\u00e9rrez, one of Trump\u2019s sharpest critics, declined to specify what grounds the articles will cite, saying only that the Democrats are working with constitutional scholars to solidify their case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI assure you we will not leave you lacking for reason,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It\u2019s also unclear which Democrats will join Guti\u00e9rrez in the effort, though an aide named Rep.\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/steve-cohen\" data-nid=\"187826\">Steve Cohen<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(D-Tenn.) as one such lawmaker. Cohen in August announced his intent to introduce impeachment articles, citing Trump\u2019s defense of the white nationalists who participated in deadly protest marches in Charlottesville, Va., that month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Cohen\u2019s office declined to comment\u00a0Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Democratic leaders have sought throughout the year to discourage impeachment efforts against Trump, fearing it could politicize the ongoing investigations into Russian hacking of the 2016 election and potential collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign. Behind House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), top Democrats are awaiting the outcome of those probes, particularly the one being conducted by Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor appointed by the Justice Department in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But Guti\u00e9rrez said the time to wait is over. And the indictments against several former Trump campaign figures, announced by Mueller\u2019s team\u00a0on Monday, have only fueled the effort, Gutierrez said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThere is increased interest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Two other Democrats\u00a0\u2014 Reps. Brad Sherman (Calif.) and\u00a0<span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/al-green\" data-nid=\"187902\">Al Green<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Texas) \u2014 have already introduced articles of impeachment targeting Trump. Last month, Green stopped just short of forcing a vote on the issue, but he\u2019s suggesting a future vote is inevitable. Congress\u2019s impeachment powers were \u201cdrawn for a time such as this and a president such as Mr. Trump,\u201d he said\u00a0Tuesday\u00a0during an interview in his Capitol Hill office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI\u2019m in no rush to be first, but I will say this: We have to \u2014 we have to bring it to the floor,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Green acknowledged that some Democrats might be agitated by the aggressive impeachment push while the Mueller investigation continues.
