{"id":47441,"date":"2022-04-19T11:35:32","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T18:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=47441"},"modified":"2022-04-19T11:35:32","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T18:35:32","slug":"los-angeles-county-proclaims-armenian-genocide-day-of-remembrance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=47441","title":{"rendered":"Los Angeles County Proclaims Armenian Genocide Day of Remembrance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">Supervisor Kathryn Barger and the Board of Supervisors commemorated the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide by proclaiming April 24, 2022 as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, in recognition of one of the darkest chapters in human history.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors proclaimed April as \u201cArmenian History Month\u201d in Los Angeles County \u2013 home to the largest population of Armenians in the United States.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cThe month of April and the celebration of Armenian culture culminates in our Day of Remembrance, a day to mourn and remember the loss of over 1.5 million innocent lives,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Supervisor Barger<\/strong>. \u201cI am heartened that my Armenian constituents are a resilient people \u2013 determined, focused and dedicated to persevering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Archbishop Hovnan Derderian<\/strong>, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Orthodox Church, reflected on the significance of L.A. County\u2019s Armenian Day of Remembrance. &#8220;April 24th is a symbol of victory for our resurrected nation. Orphans of Martyrs have become parents and grandparents. As visionaries themselves, they have become architects of the independent Motherland\u2026and have become the pillars of the New Armenia, the New Church, and new horizons.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cArmenian Genocide Remembrance Day is an especially poignant commemoration for residents across Los Angeles County,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Supervisor Solis<\/strong>. \u201cHaving proudly served the Armenian community of Montebello for many years, I am thrilled to now be able to represent Little Armenia\u2014 a community that particularly holds so much value to Armenian-Americans.
