Jay Chen and Democrats refuse to apologize<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Los Angeles, CA (April 20th, 2022) – Congresswoman Michelle Steel responded to her opponent Jay Chen\u2019s racist remarks in an op-ed<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0the Orange County Register. Chen has refused to apologize for the incident.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chen has come under fire for\u00a0saying,<\/a>\u00a0\u201cYou kind of need an interpreter to figure out exactly what she\u2019s saying\u201d at a campaign event. Congresswoman Steel is a first-generation immigrant to the United States who speaks three languages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Chen remains silent, Democrats have refused to denounce his xenophobic remarks. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC)\u00a0declined<\/a>\u00a0to express regret while Democrat Judy Chu\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0in support of Chen in a blatant example of gaslighting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Local and regional community leaders\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0a letter to Chen, saying, \u201cWe are calling on you to immediately and publicly apologize for your racist attacks, not just to Congresswoman Steel, but to the entire Asian American community. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
