{"id":49962,"date":"2022-06-29T18:08:24","date_gmt":"2022-06-30T01:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=49962"},"modified":"2022-06-29T21:09:19","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T04:09:19","slug":"governors-urge-congress-to-avert-disastrous-hike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=49962","title":{"rendered":"Governors urge Congress to avert \u2018disastrous\u2019 hike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s more pressure on congressional Democrats to act on ObamaCare premium hikes, this time from a group of governors.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A group of Democratic governors is calling on Congress to avert what they call \u201cdisastrous\u201d ObamaCare premium increases for next year as lawmakers search for a solution in their economic package.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0letter from 14 Democratic governors\u00a0to congressional leaders calls for extending enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies enacted last year as part of President\u00a0Biden\u2019s\u00a0American Rescue Plan (ARP) but which are currently set to expire at the end of this year.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWe urge you to take action immediately to make the ARP expanded subsidies permanent to prevent a disastrous erosion of health insurance coverage,\u201d write the state leaders, including Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Manchin the big question:\u00a0<\/strong>Democrats in Congress\u00a0have also been calling\u00a0for extending the enhanced subsidies, but their fate largely depends on Sen.\u00a0Joe Manchin\u00a0(D-W.Va.), the key vote on Biden\u2019s party-line economic package.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Manchin has not given a clear answer on whether he supports extending the enhanced subsidies.
