{"id":50510,"date":"2022-07-16T10:38:35","date_gmt":"2022-07-16T17:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=50510"},"modified":"2022-07-18T10:39:02","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T17:39:02","slug":"senator-blocks-protecting-interstate-abortion-travel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=50510","title":{"rendered":"Senator blocks protecting interstate abortion travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GOP Sen.\u00a0<strong>James Lankford<\/strong>\u00a0(Okla.) on Thursday blocked a Democratic request to unanimously pass a bill seeking to protect interstate travel for abortion.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), joined by a string of Democratic senators, had sought consent to pass a bill that would prevent states from punishing women who travel to other states where abortion is legal to get the procedure.<\/li>\n<li>The measure would also protect health care providers who provide abortions to out-of-state patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cDoes that child in the womb have the right to travel in their future?\u201d Lankford said in objecting. \u201cDo they get to live?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a child in this conversation as well,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Big picture<\/strong>: With full-scale legislation to codify Roe v.
