California Sen.\u00a0Scott Wiener\u00a0(D) said the city of San Francisco is veering toward a public health crisis due to the uncontrolled spread of the monkeypox virus in a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s Department of Public Health\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday that its walk-in clinic will close for the remainder of the week due to the vaccine shortage. Other city clinics are working through remaining appointments and joining the DPH center in \u201curgently asking for more doses.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 1,700 San Francisco residents\u00a0have<\/a>\u00a0been vaccinated against the virus, according to the San Francisco DPH.<\/p>\n

The warning:\u00a0<\/strong>Wiener said the vaccination rate will continue to be slow, which will cause a spread in the city and surrounding communities. He said \u201cfailure to control this outbreak\u201d will harm residents, especially the city\u2019s LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need an enormous amount of additional vaccine doses, and we need it immediately. The federal government\u2019s failures are threatening to deeply harm our community,\u201d Wiener added. \u201cOnce we move past this emergency, we need accountability for these failures \u2014 failures that put people\u2019s lives and health in jeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
