{"id":50677,"date":"2022-07-22T14:39:31","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T21:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=50677"},"modified":"2022-07-22T15:20:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T22:20:27","slug":"barger-issues-statement-on-andres-cachus-arrest-and-d-a-s-role-this-is-unacceptable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=50677","title":{"rendered":"Barger Issues Statement on Andres Cachu\u2019s Arrest and D.A.\u2019s Role: \u201cThis is unacceptable.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><strong>Los Angeles, CA<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement regarding this week\u2019s arrest of Andres Cachu in the Palmdale area \u2014 a\u00a0 convicted murderer and reputed gang member set free last year after serving only 6 years of a 50-year sentence due to Proposition 57 and the District Attorney\u2019s decision to not object to his release:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><em>\u201cThis case exemplifies all that is wrong with our County D.A.\u2018s underwhelming approach to fending for victims\u2019 rights and prosecutorial decisions. I am relieved that no one in the Antelope Valley community was hurt or lost their life during the re-arrest of Mr. Cachu, but that was largely due to the responding Sheriff\u2019s deputies\u2019 skills and, frankly, luck.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><em>The public\u2019s safety was greatly endangered due to our D.A.\u2019s inaction. When Cachu sought a new sentence last year, the D.A. could\u2019ve pursued a court hearing so a judge could decide whether Cachu should remain in state prison. He chose to not do so, despite the heinous nature of the murder Cachu\u00a0 committed and the victim\u2019s family\u2019s pleas.
