{"id":50765,"date":"2022-07-25T17:41:51","date_gmt":"2022-07-26T00:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=50765"},"modified":"2022-07-26T10:42:23","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T17:42:23","slug":"feds-propose-bolstering-lgbtq-health-protections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=50765","title":{"rendered":"Feds propose bolstering LGBTQ health protections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new proposal from the\u00a0Biden\u00a0administration would reverse Trump-era limits on health care protections against discrimination for transgender and other LGBTQ people.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The proposed rule from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) would strengthen ObamaCare\u2019s rules to prohibit discrimination based on sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity, in certain health programs and activities that receive federal funding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The proposal also seeks to protect from discrimination people seeking reproductive health care services, including those who have had abortions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after former President Trump\u2019s administration ruled to remove most of the protections that prevented health care workers from denying care to patients based on their gender identity or sexual orientation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key quote:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWe know that in many states, communities, our transgender community, are feeling like they\u2019re being left out.
