{"id":51590,"date":"2022-08-18T13:28:01","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T20:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=51590"},"modified":"2022-08-18T15:28:29","modified_gmt":"2022-08-18T22:28:29","slug":"kentucky-supreme-court-declines-to-block-abortion-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=51590","title":{"rendered":"KENTUCKY SUPREME COURT DECLINES TO BLOCK ABORTION BAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kentucky Supreme Court on Thursday declined to block the state\u2019s near-total abortion ban while it reviews legal challenges to the law.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A state court of appeals allowed two abortion bans to go into effect in an Aug. 1 ruling and the state Supreme Court kept that ruling in place, finding that the \u201ccircumstances presented\u201d by the challengers \u201cdo not rise to the level of extraordinary cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The appeals court\u2019s Aug. 1 decision lifted a temporary injunction against two<br \/>\n2019 bans. The near-complete ban on abortions was passed in the form of a \u201ctrigger\u201d law, and took effect when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Legal battle to come:\u00a0<\/strong>The courts have yet to rule on the merits of the challenge to the abortion bans, and abortion rights groups said they will continue to fight.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cMake no mistake: abortion bans result in tragic health outcomes and are a form of control over our bodies. Despite this setback, the fight continues,\u201d Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the ACLU of Kentucky said in a statement.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWe will proceed with our case to restore and protect reproductive freedom in Kentucky. Politicians and the government should never have the authority to force a person to remain pregnant against their will,\u201d the groups said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ballot:\u00a0<\/strong>But oral arguments aren\u2019t scheduled until Nov. 15, which is after the general election.
