\u201cAndy really understands that we need equity to have race conscious education within our k-12 system. Especially in an area like… unified school district, for we have large numbers of Asian American students, Latino students, who need to know their history, background, and significant contributions that our communities made for this country. I’m so extremely proud to be supporting Andy and excited for his leadership. This is an excellent opportunity to elect a young API leader to office, and I cannot think of someone better suited for this position. \u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

As the youngest female mayor in San Gabriel Valley history and the youngest Latina mayor to lead a city of more than 50,000 in California, Sasha Ren\u00e9e P\u00e9rez endoses Andy with other local elected officials and community leader. Mike Eng, mayor of City of Monterey Park Henry Lo and city council member Peter Chan in attendence with about 50 supporters and volunteers from San Gabriel valley.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Andy\u2019s father Charles\u2019s high school classmates from Hong Kong, Monterey Park city council member Peter Chan encourage Said: \u201cI’m so happy Andy put himself into the political arena and tried to start a political career. In addition, of course he did a lot in the Monterey Park Library, on the board of trustees. He proved himself he is on par with everyone else. It’s great to see young kids coming out and it’s good that he started to run. This is his first step, and I hope he will continue his political career.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrew is the youngest Board member ever appointed to the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Board of Trustees.\u00a0\u00a0Andrew is also the youngest Commissioner to serve on the Los Angeles County Library Commission, appointed by 1st<\/sup>\u00a0District Supervisor Hilda Solis.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can’t think of anyone more qualified to serve on the board for the Garvey school district. We always have to think about the future and I think those of us in civil engagement, in local communities, we talk about what is that pipeline in which we identify emerging leaders in order to support them, so I am very pleased that Andy will continue to work in order to improve the district. The Garvey school district has a lot of underprivileged\u00a0kids that face a lot of challenges, so I am glad that Andy is campaigning for the district board.\u00a0\u201cHenry Lo said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAndy has done so well as part of the library board. Andy has also been running a campaign in another county. I’m not supporting Andy because of the things he’s done. WHat value do you think Andy represents? Family, ethical, and hardworking. He’s up working when everyone else is asleep. One thing that he represents to me is that he is an influencer and leader for his generation. When you vote for Andy you’re voting for someone for the future.\u201d Said Mike Eng.<\/span><\/p>\n

At last, Andy said: \u201cI am the product of all the interactions and experiences of all of you here today. I hope I can make an impact if I’m elected, and I hope in my first 100 days to start a project that the parents of garvey school district will say, “wow he really is making a difference.” It’s going to be a journey, and I hope I’ve convinced you to support me and give me a shot. I know there are people saying he’s too young, too asian, or too whatever, but I want to prove you wrong.\u00a0\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

A life-long resident of Monterey Park, Andrew was a former Youth Commissioner on the Community Participation Commission of Monterey Park.\u00a0\u00a0Andrew has been endorsed by Congresswoman Judy Chu, Assemblymember Mike Fong, California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Boardmember Mike Eng, Monterey Park Mayor Henry Lo, and a number of other elected officials and community leaders across San Gabriel Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n
