{"id":52876,"date":"2022-09-29T11:06:34","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T18:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=52876"},"modified":"2022-09-29T11:06:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T18:06:34","slug":"ucla-buys-marymount-california-university-property-in-palos-verdes-peninsula-to-ease-crowding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=52876","title":{"rendered":"UCLA buys Marymount California University property in Palos Verdes Peninsula to ease crowding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UCLA has purchased two new sites in Rancho Palos Verdes and San Pedro in an effort to address campus crowding and increasing student demand.<\/p>\n<p>The two sites belonged to Marymount California University, a private Catholic college that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/marymountcalifornia.edu\/news\/marymount-california-university-to-permanently-close\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/marymountcalifornia.edu\/news\/marymount-california-university-to-permanently-close\/\">shuttered in August 2022<\/a>. MCU cited declining enrollment and rising costs as the reasons for closing.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ucla.edu\/releases\/ucla-expands-with-new-sites-in-south-bay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ucla.edu\/releases\/ucla-expands-with-new-sites-in-south-bay\">$80 million purchase<\/a>\u00a0marks the largest land acquisition in UCLA history.
