Blinken, Secretary of State<\/p>\n<p>On the 10th\u00a0anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child, the United States\u00a0recommits to\u00a0advancing\u00a0the rights\u00a0and empowerment\u00a0of\u00a0girls\u00a0and young women\u00a0in\u00a0all their diversity around\u00a0the world.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, we are far \u2014 too far \u2014 from achieving a gender-equitable world. Today, girls and young women are disproportionately impacted by unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 and HIV pandemics, humanitarian conflicts and crises, and the growing numbers of climate-related disasters facing our planet. Girls and young women continue to face risks of violence and discrimination in nearly every sphere \u2014 in their homes, schools, communities, and online.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the barriers, they are rising up as leaders and changemakers. Girls and young women are at the forefront of climate action, demanding greater accountability from their governments, and speaking out against human rights abuses. To accelerate progress, we must uphold our commitment to fully involving them in decision-making processes and championing their solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, we issued the first-ever\u00a0U.S. National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality\u00a0to advance\u00a0the\u00a0rights and empowerment of women and girls.\u00a0This\u00a0year,\u00a0we\u00a0will release an\u00a0action-oriented\u00a0update to the U.S. Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence Globally, which will include an emphasis\u00a0on girls,\u00a0the unique\u00a0risks they\u00a0face, and their role as agents of change in preventing and responding to gender-based violence.\u00a0The United\u00a0States\u00a0will\u00a0also\u00a0<wbr \/>continue\u00a0efforts\u00a0to promote girls\u2019\u00a0safety online through\u00a0the Global Partnership for Action on Gender-Based Online Harassment and Abuse\u00a0and the White House Taskforce to Address Online Harassment and Abuse.<\/p>\n<p>On the multilateral front, through our support of the\u00a0Generation Equality Forum,\u00a0the United\u00a0States\u00a0has\u00a0committed\u00a0to doubling\u00a0support\u00a0for the\u00a0President\u2019s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief\u00a0(PEPFAR)\u00a0DREAMS Partnership,\u00a0which supports programs focused on economic strengthening, gender-based violence prevention, post-GBV\u00a0care, and sexual and reproductive health services.\u00a0And finally,\u00a0the United\u00a0States\u00a0continues\u00a0to\u00a0<wbr \/>support\u00a0UN\u00a0Women,\u00a0UNFPA,\u00a0and\u00a0<wbr \/>UNICEF\u00a0as vital partners\u00a0in efforts to\u00a0prevent and respond to all forms of\u00a0gender-based violence, including child, early, and forced marriage;\u00a0female genital mutilation\/cutting;\u00a0and\u00a0online harassment and abuse.<\/p>\n<p>As we look to the next decade,\u00a0the United States\u00a0stands\u00a0firm in our commitment to\u00a0partner\u00a0with\u00a0girls\u00a0and young women\u00a0in all their diversity\u00a0and uplift their voices\u00a0in\u00a0securing\u00a0equal enjoyment\u00a0of\u00a0their rights, safety, and ability to meaningfully participate in societies and decisions that impact their lives.
