LOS ANGELES<\/strong> \u2013 Councilmember Mitch O\u2019Farrell today lauded the Los Angeles City Planning Commission\u2019s approval of \u201cSunset + Wilcox,\u201d which proposes to construct the first all-electric office building in the Los Angeles area.<\/p>\n \n \u201cI\u2019ve been proud to lead the City of Los Angeles\u2019s efforts to decarbonize buildings, starting with public facilities, and I\u2019ve always said that this would and should incentivize the private sector to follow suit. I am thrilled that, after much engagement with my office, this applicant is boldly taking this on \u2013 not because it\u2019s required, but because it\u2019s the right thing to do,\u201d said Councilmember O\u2019Farrell, the chair of the City Council\u2019s Environmental Justice committee. \u201cThis is how Los Angeles is going to get to 100% carbon-free, renewable energy: with the public and private sectors each doing their part, and each prioritizing creative, innovative projects. I challenge all other applicants to follow this example.\u201d<\/p>\n \n \u201cSunset + Wilcox,\u201d which would be built at 6450 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, proposes a 15-story office building with more than 440,000 square feet of space. If ultimately approved and constructed, it will be the first all-electric office building (excluding commercial food uses for cooking purposes, consistent with recommendations from the Department of Building and Safety) in the City of Los Angeles, and one of the largest such structures in the country.<\/p>\n \n With O\u2019Farrell at the helm, Los Angeles is projected to reach its goal of being powered by 100% carbon-free, renewable energy by 2035 \u2013 the most ambitious plan of any city in the United States.
