Please allow images from the Fifth District to improve your reading experience.\" width=\"560\" height=\"470\" data-bit=\"iit\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Friends of the Children \u2013 Los Angeles presented Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger with the &#8220;Power of One&#8221; award at their inaugural Women&#8217;s Leadership Breakfast held this morning at The California Club. Supervisor Barger was selected to receive this award for her work and dedication to supporting and safeguarding children in Los Angeles County, especially those within the foster care system.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cI am truly honored to receive this award,&#8221; said\u00a0<strong>Supervisor Kathryn Barger<\/strong>. &#8220;Protecting and advocating for the rights of all children living within my district continues to be my passion and a top priority. I&#8217;d like to thank Jorie Das for the honor and Friends LA&#8217;s commitment to the most vulnerable members in our county &#8211; namely, the children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&#8220;We are grateful for Supervisor Barger&#8217;s dedication to supporting children and families in her district. Supervisor Barger has been a longtime supporter of Friends LA &#8212; especially with our work with children at risk of entering foster care in Antelope Valley,&#8221; said\u00a0<strong>Executive Director of Friends of the Children &#8211; Los Angeles, Jorie Das<\/strong>. &#8220;We appreciate her being a part of our Village of Believers that has allowed us to serve over 200 deserving youth across LA County over the past five years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The morning began with a welcome address from Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metro, followed by a panel discussion focused on the importance and benefits of mentoring, featuring some of Los Angeles&#8217; most noteworthy and strongest women leaders. Moderated by Christina Pascucci from Good Day LA, panelists included Tomii Crump of NBCUniversal Media, Jennifer Baldocchi from Paul Hastings, and Kristen Dykstra of YITTY | Fabletics, Inc. Participants shared thoughtful examples from their own experiences and emphasized the importance of having mentor relationships in the career space that are personalized and meaningful.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&#8220;This morning&#8217;s event was a celebration of the power of mentoring and perfectly timed to be held during National Mentoring Month,&#8221; said\u00a0<strong>Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins<\/strong>. &#8220;Mentoring can empower the next generation to reach their potential and positively affect our communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&#8220;Friends LA&#8217;s professional mentoring program has had a huge impact on my children and family,&#8221; said\u00a0<strong>Michelle, Friends LA Caregiver<\/strong>. &#8220;The commitment and compassion that they demonstrate toward the kids is incredible.
