Los Angeles, Feb. 5 (LAPost)<\/strong> – Taiwanese team designers Xiao Qing-yang (\u856d\u9752\u967d) and his daughter Hsiao Chun-tien (\u856d\u541b\u606c) won the Best Recording Package design award at the 65th Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, the Tamsui-Kavalan Chinese Orchestra took home the award for \u2018Best Recording Package\u2019, beating Soporus, Spiritualized, Fann and Underoath. Their project,\u00a0Beginningless Beginning<\/em>,\u00a0is a soundtrack album for the short film\u00a0Tamsui-Kavalan Trails Trilogy\u00a0<\/em>and its packaging was designed by father and daughter duo Xiao Qing-yang and Hsiao Chun-tien. It was Xiao\u2019s seventh Grammy Awards nomination since 2005, and the first with his daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the second consecutive year that a Taiwanese artist team has won this award. When President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te learned of the award at the first time, they appointed Amino C. Y. Chi, Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, to send a congratulatory message on their behalf, conveying congratulations to the winners from the people of Taiwan!<\/span><\/p>\n

Xiao Qing-yang is shortlisted for the “Best Record Packaging Award” for the seventh time, and is the record holder for the most nominations in the history of the award. This award-winning work “Beginningless Beginning” is the first time that he has joined hands with his daughter Hsiao Chun-tien for the Soundtrack album produced for the short film “Tamsui-Kavalan Trails”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Xiao, 56, gave his acceptance speech in Mandarin, expressing gratitude to his parents, ancestors, wife and all the people who walk the Tamsui-Kavalan trails. Xiao Qing-yang) said he wanted the album package for which he was honored to share the moving history and culture of Taiwan contained in the album’s music.<\/span><\/p>\n

The work is recorded with the sounds of streams, valleys, insects and birds at different times along the Tamsui-Kavalan Trails in Taiwan, combined with ancient oriental musical instruments played 3,000 years ago. It is hoped that the world will hear Taiwan’s unique creative combination of ancient trails and ancient music.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cover design starts with the appearance of a puppet, and cuts out layer after layer with a piece of paper that contains the concept of the concertina old camera, as if recording the path the ancestors walked and the music they listened to in the century-old road. The design team hopes that through the international stage of the Grammys, musicians from all over the world will know that Taiwan has such a rich and beautiful history and culture, and pass on the “path of ancestors” to the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Xiao Qing-yang said that this album shows the inheritance from ancient times to the present. It is very meaningful for him and his daughter to win this work together.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the works of Xiao Qing-yang and Hsiao Chun-tien, the packaging designed by designer WHOSMiNG for singer Fann’s “Telos” album was also shortlisted for this year’s Grammy Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amino C. Y. Chi, director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, said that the Grammy Awards are the highest hall of world pop music, and Taiwan’s works have won the Best Record Packaging Award for two consecutive years, which shows that Taiwan’s design soft power has won the highest international affirmation.
