{"id":56995,"date":"2023-03-13T15:51:11","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T22:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=56995"},"modified":"2023-03-13T15:51:30","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T22:51:30","slug":"werfel-begins-work-as-50th-irs-commissioner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=56995","title":{"rendered":"Werfel begins work as 50th IRS Commissioner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IR-2023-45, <strong>March 13, 2023,\u00a0WASHINGTON<\/strong> \u2013 Danny Werfel began work today as the 50<sup>th<\/sup> commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Werfel, who was confirmed by the Senate on March 9, was sworn into office this morning by Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement Doug O\u2019Donnell, who served as acting commissioner since November.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter taking the oath of office a short time ago, I feel incredibly grateful and humbled to have the chance to lead such an amazing group of dedicated public servants at a pivotal moment in IRS history,\u201d Werfel told IRS employees. \u201cThis role culminates a lifetime of commitment to public service for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As commissioner, Werfel returns to the federal government, where he first began work at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in the late 1990s. He spent more than 15 years in the federal government, eventually serving as Controller of OMB. He came over to the IRS to temporarily serve as Acting Commissioner in 2013.
