Blinken, Secretary of State<\/p>\n<p>The World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), will hold its annual meeting May 21-30 in Geneva to discuss global public health priorities.\u00a0 It is a unique opportunity for delegates and health experts from around the world to advance global health and global health security.\u00a0 We strongly encourage the WHO to invite Taiwan to participate as an observer at this year\u2019s WHA meeting so it may lend its expertise to the discussions.<\/p>\n<p>Inviting Taiwan as an observer would exemplify the WHO\u2019s commitment to an inclusive, \u201chealth for all\u201d approach to international health cooperation.\u00a0 Taiwan is a highly capable, engaged, and responsible member of the global health community and has been invited to participate as an observer in previous WHA meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan\u2019s distinct capabilities and approaches \u2013 including its significant public health expertise, democratic governance, and advanced technology \u2013 bring considerable value that would inform the WHA\u2019s deliberations.\u00a0 Taiwan\u2019s isolation from WHA, the preeminent global health forum, is unjustified and undermines inclusive global public health cooperation and security, which the world demands.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan is a reliable partner, a vibrant democracy, and a force for good in the world.\u00a0 The United States will continue to advocate for Taiwan\u2019s return as an observer at the WHA, and, moreover, for its meaningful and robust participation throughout the UN system and in international fora.\u00a0 Our support for Taiwan\u2019s participation in appropriate international fora is in line with our one China policy, which is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three U.S.-China Joint Communiques, and the Six Assurances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>05\/09\/2023 12:07 PM EDT &nbsp; Antony&#46;&#46;&#46;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-57846","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-world"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57846","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=57846"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57846\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":57847,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/57846\/revisions\/57847"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=57846"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=57846"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=57846"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
