LA County’s innovative BREATHE guaranteed income program is proud to announce an expansion to include support for former foster youth from the Department of Children and Family Services\u2019 (DCFS). The program will award 200 randomly selected qualifying former DCFS foster youth $1,000 a month for two years.<\/p>\n

Former foster youth interested in applying can find more information and view full\u00a0list<\/a>\u00a0of applicant requirements at:\u00a0breathe.lacounty.gov.<\/a>\u00a0The enrollment period opens June 20, 2023 and the deadline for applications is July 3, 2023. Selection will not depend on the timing of entries. Applicants can apply online or use a mobile phone, computer, or tablet.<\/p>\n

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by individuals transitioning out of the foster care system, the expansion aims to provide essential resources and assistance to empower these young adults as they navigate their path towards independence and success.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud that the expansion of Breathe: LA County\u2019s Guaranteed Income Program, will intentionally include foster youth, who are one of our most vulnerable populations\u201d said\u00a0Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell<\/strong>. \u201cI trust that the findings from this pilot will sharpen our ability to disrupt the cycle of poverty by investing directly in our residents and communities that are disproportionately impacted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people exiting the foster care system need our support as they pursue their education, career, and dreams,\u201d said\u00a0Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath<\/strong>. \u201cThe expansion of LA County\u2019s BREATHE Guaranteed Income Program to include former foster youth makes it one of the longest-running and largest in the nation with $40.8 million in direct payments. By collaborating with community partners, foster care agencies, educational institutions, and local nonprofits, BREATHE aims to bridge the gap and provide essential support for young people, who deserve our support.\u201d<\/p>\n
