In case you missed it<\/strong>, last week the Steinberg Institute \u2013 founded by Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, author of the original Mental Health Services Act of 2004 (MHSA) \u2013\u00a0released an analysis<\/a>\u00a0highlighting the crucial need for Governor Newsom\u2019s MHSA modernization and bond proposal \u2013 adding their trusted voice to the\u00a0organizations and leaders in support<\/a>\u00a0of this historic transformation.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year Governor Newsom\u00a0announced the proposed transformation<\/a>\u00a0of the MHSA\u00a0to align with updated care and services<\/strong>\u00a0and better serve Californians\u2019 mental health needs for years to come. The reform would\u00a0bring more oversight and accountability\u00a0<\/strong>to how behavioral health money is spent at the local level and ensure better results as we address our society-wide mental health and substance abuse crises. The accompanying multi-billion dollar bond proposal will\u00a0build 10,000 new behavioral health beds and housing units<\/strong>\u00a0to address California\u2019s current shortage of community placements for rehabilitation and recovery.<\/p>\n
