SACRAMENTO<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Today, Governor Newsom is launching a new tool to continue California\u2019s efforts in fighting the ongoing opioid crisis \u2013 a comprehensive website with resources for Californians:\u00a0Opioids.CA.GOV<\/a>. This website serves as a reliable source of information on prevention, data, treatment, and support where Californians can also access information related to the state\u2019s use of opioid settlement funds and efforts to hold drug-traffickers accountable.<\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0California is\u00a0investing nearly $8 million<\/a>\u00a0in local\u00a0organizations to support\u00a0education, testing, recovery and support services \u2013 focusing on closing gaps in access to care and reducing inequities for populations at greater risk for overdose. These investments are being made\u00a0in local organizations in\u00a0Northern California, the Central Valley, and Southern California.<\/p>\n

These initiatives are part of Governor Newsom\u2019s\u00a0billion-dollar\u00a0Master Plan<\/a>, a\u00a0multi-pronged approach to tackle the opioid crisis, prevent and reduce overdoses and deaths, and support people struggling with substance abuse and addiction.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

WHY THIS MATTERS:<\/strong>\u00a0Nearly 7,000 Californians died from opioid-related overdoses in 2022. Over 83,000 opioid-related overdose deaths occur per year across the country \u2013 more than 90% of which involve fentanyl. With opioids continuing to be a main driver of drug overdose deaths, this new, easy-to-navigate site provides valuable information and education on preventing and treating opioid overdoses and substance use disorders \u2013 crucial steps in fighting the ongoing epidemic in California and across the country.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n
