The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is investigating a cluster of\u00a0gastrointestinal\u00a0illnesses potentially linked to raw oysters consumed at four different local restaurants. There are 27 associated cases to date.<\/p>\n
Public Health is currently working with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to investigate\u00a0and confirm the source of\u00a0this cluster\u00a0of gastrointestinal illness cases.<\/p>\n
At this time, Public Health warns residents \u2014 specifically those most vulnerable such as young children, older adults, and people who are immunocompromised \u2014 of the risks of consuming raw oysters.<\/p>\n
\u201cUntil the source is confirmed, consumers should be cautious before eating raw oysters due to the potential risk of foodborne illness,\u201d said Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, Los Angeles County Health Officer. \u201cIf you are sick, avoid spreading illness by washing your hands frequently and cleaning frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, and kitchen countertops.\u201d<\/p>\n
