Los Angeles County\u2019s\u00a0Pathway Home<\/a>\u00a0program brought 52 people experiencing homelessness off the streets of Monrovia, Duarte, and surrounding areas in unincorporated LA County into safe interim housing, where they will receive supportive services and other resources to help them transition out of homelessness and into permanent housing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pleased the County\u2019s Pathway Home program has brought its well-coordinated outreach, support services, and housing solutions to the streets of Monrovia and Duarte,\u201d\u00a0Supervisor Kathryn Barger<\/a>\u00a0said. \u201cA lot of work and planning goes into each Pathway Home operation so that people experiencing homelessness are helped in a compassionate manner that also reflects a firm commitment to clearing encampments. Public spaces must be clean and accessible to the community at large, and Pathway Home\u2019s systematic approach works hard to meet that goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Monrovia and Duarte operation conducted on June 5, 2024, is LA County\u2019s 16th Pathway Home encampment resolution since the program’s inception in August 2023. More than 600 formerly unsheltered residents in LA County have moved indoors through Pathway Home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe City of Monrovia has always held that interim housing solutions alone cannot solve homelessness. Individuals need additional support services, including healthcare, case management, job training, and even basic skill development like computer literacy,\u201d Monrovia City Manager Dylan Feik said. \u201cPerhaps most importantly, individuals also need a pathway to permanent supportive housing. The Pathway Home project has all of these necessary components.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duarte City Manager Brian Villalobos said, “The City of Duarte is grateful to Pathway Home. They are housing Duarte residents who have been living on the streets for five, ten, and in some cases, twenty-plus years. They finally have a path to a permanent housing solution.”<\/p>\n

The LA County Homeless Initiative collaborated with the Office of Supervisor Barger, the\u00a0City of Monrovia<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0City of Duarte<\/a>\u00a0to conduct the Pathway Home operation. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA<\/a>) and nonprofit service providers\u00a0Union Station Homeless Services<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Volunteers of America<\/a>\u00a0were essential to bringing unsheltered residents indoors as they had built trusting relationships with them by providing engagement and support during their unhoused experience. Union Station Homeless Services will continue to work with these residents at the motel operating as their interim housing location as they regain their long-term housing stability. The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department, and the Monrovia Police Department were also critical partners in the operation.<\/p>\n

Pathway Home is a Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative-led encampment resolution program that is a critical component of the County\u2019s comprehensive\u00a0response to the local emergency<\/a>\u00a0on homelessness adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 2023. By leveraging emergency powers and partnerships with local jurisdictions, Pathway Home is a full-circle solution that brings people off the streets, into immediately available interim housing accompanied by a comprehensive suite of supportive services, and, ultimately, into safe, permanent homes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
