The funding was approved by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) and is the first wave of funding from the transit recovery package in the 2023-24 state budget.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As part of<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=6271fcfd57&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D6271fcfd57%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1720555936902000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3vWssOxFLRgYCJpFZMgE_2\">\u00a0Senate Bill 125 (2023)<\/a>, a total of $5.1 billion will be distributed among regional transportation planning agencies over the course of multiple years. This funding comes with the flexibility to pay for transit operations or capital improvements. The remaining SB 125 funds will be approved annually through fiscal year 2027-28.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cCalifornia\u2019s commitment to public transit is unwavering, and with billions more in funding in the pipeline \u2013 including for zero-emission equipment and operations \u2013 we are just getting started in delivering a more sustainable and equitable transit system for the people of California,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin<\/strong>. \u201cI thank Governor Newsom and our legislative leaders for continuing to prioritize public transit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The transit recovery package also includes accountability measures to help stabilize transit systems and retool their long-term operations to better align with the needs of the public. As part of that effort, CalSTA has convened the<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=e5601b6ac8&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3De5601b6ac8%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1720555936902000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1Wnpuiz9dh3kWlScTjrDCL\">\u00a0Transit Transformation Task Force<\/a>\u00a0to develop policy recommendations to grow transit ridership, improve the transit experience and address long-term operational needs.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">More transit dollars on the way<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the transit funding announced today, in April CalSTA put out a call for projects for more than $900 million in funding through<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=473328981f&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D473328981f%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1720555936902000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0AV43l-cubXn02g4Kf6gyv\">\u00a0the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP)<\/a>. Project applications are due July 23, with an award announcement in October.
