KERN COUNTY\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Visiting communities impacted by the Borel Fire in Kern County, Governor Gavin Newsom today met with fire and emergency management officials and\u00a0proclaimed<\/a>\u00a0a state of emergency\u00a0in Kern County to support the response to the Borel Fire. Today\u2019s action follows the Governor\u2019s announcement this weekend that the state has secured\u00a0federal assistance<\/a>\u00a0for the Borel Fire response.<\/p>\n

The Borel Fire began burning in the Sequoia National Forest last week and is one of several fires comprising the SQF Lightning Complex, which has burned close to 90,000 acres to date.<\/p>\n

Governor Newsom was briefed by federal, state and local officials at the Borel Fire Incident Command Post in Kernville and visited the historic mining town Havilah, which has been ravaged by the fire.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

\nGovernor Newsom surveys damage from the Borel Fire and meets with first responders in Kern County.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Governor this weekend visited the Incident Command Post for the Park Fire\u00a0in Butte County<\/a>\u00a0and announced that the state has secured Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAGs) to support the response to the\u00a0Borel Fire<\/a>\u00a0and the Park Fire in\u00a0Tehama County<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The state has also secured FMAGs to support the response to the Park Fire in\u00a0Butte County<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Thompson<\/a>,\u00a0French<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Hawarden<\/a>\u00a0fires. Governor Newsom previously proclaimed a state of emergency in\u00a0Plumas County<\/a>\u00a0due to the Gold Complex Fire, in\u00a0Butte and Tehama counties<\/a>\u00a0due to the Park Fire, and in\u00a0Butte County<\/a>\u00a0in response to the Thompson Fire.<\/p>\n

Among other provisions, today\u2019s proclamation supports impacted residents by easing access to unemployment benefits and waiving fees to replace driver\u2019s licenses and records such as marriage and birth certificates. It also allows the waiver of certain statutes and regulations so that hospitals, clinics and behavioral health facilities impacted by the fires can continue to provide services and, if necessary, provide care to patients or residents displaced from other facilities by the fires.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
