Pasadena, CA<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0–<\/em>\u00a0The Pasadena POPS<\/strong>\u00a0continue their one-of-a-kind, popular outdoor summer concert series with\u00a0Michael Cavanaugh\u00a0<\/strong>singing the music of\u00a0Paul Simon, James Taylor, Billy Joel\u00a0<\/strong>and more of your favorite singer-songwriters on\u00a0Saturday, August 10<\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0LA County Arboretum<\/strong>. Hand-picked by\u00a0Billy Joel<\/strong>\u00a0himself, Cavanaugh got his start as the lead role in the Broadway musical\u00a0Movin\u2019 Out<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em>which earned him both\u00a0Grammy and Tony Award<\/strong>\u00a0nominations. Acclaimed for his highly energized piano and \u00advocals,\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0has called Cavanaugh \u201cThe New Voice of the American Rock \u2019n Roll Songbook,\u201d\u00a0for his thrilling tributes, this newest show paying homage to the iconic singer-songwriters that transformed the American musical landscape.<\/p>\n

Audiences will know and love every song as Cavanaugh performs timeless hits from \u201c50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,\u201d \u201cMe and Julio,\u201d \u201cYou Can Call me Al,\u201d \u201cHow Sweet It Is,\u201d and \u201cWhenever I See Your Smilin\u2019 Face,\u201d to \u201cSweet Caroline,\u201d \u201cPiano Man\u201d and many more. For this exclusive Southern California engagement, Cavanaugh will breathe new life into these classics for a night of sing-along favorites with the POPS orchestra and a full back-up band. \u201c[Cavanaugh] has reinvented these songs into something that dare I say sometimes improves upon the originals.\u201d\u00a0(MD Theatre Guide<\/em>).<\/p>\n

This is not Cavanaugh\u2019s first rodeo with the POPS, having performed tributes to both Billy Joel and Elton John in past seasons, most recently to sold-out audiences. \u201cThis audience knows me pretty well by now,\u201d says Cavanaugh, \u201cThis show is a lot of fun. When we do songs like \u201cYou Can Call Me Al,\u201d everyone\u2019s up and dancing. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to get on stage and perform for them once again.\u201d<\/p>\n

All Pasadena POPS concerts are held at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. Grounds open for picnicking and dining at 5:30pm and performances begin at 7:30pm.
