SACRAMENTO \u2014\u00a0California is making it easier than ever to cash in empty beverage containers with more than 250 new recycling sites across 30 counties funded by recycling innovation awards.<\/p>\n

Governor Gavin Newsom today highlighted CalRecycle\u2019s award of nearly $70 million in\u00a0Beverage Container Redemption Innovation Grants<\/a>\u00a0to projects that will add dynamic recycling methods like reverse vending machines, mobile recycling and bag-drop sites around the state, including in underserved counties like Butte, Imperial, Mendocino, Merced and Modoc.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Bigger picture<\/strong><\/h2>\n

California is implementing several reforms to recycle more beverage containers and make redemption easier for consumers. Californians can now\u00a0redeem<\/a>\u00a0wine, liquor and large juice containers for cash, and new retailer takeback rules beginning next year will expand beverage recycling options for consumers in areas that are not served by a recycling center.<\/p>\n

The state is also investing in programs that support recycling infrastructure, innovation and accessibility across California, including additional\u00a0Redemption Innovation<\/a>\u00a0grants,\u00a0Beverage Container Quality Infrastructure<\/a>\u00a0grants and\u00a0Reusable Beverage Container Recycling Infrastructure<\/a>\u00a0grants.<\/p>\n

California\u00a0earlier this year released draft regulations for the\u00a0Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act (SB 54)<\/a>, a nation-leading measure signed by Governor Newsom that requires producers to cut single-use plastic waste and ensure the packaging on products they sell is recyclable or compostable.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
