The honorees \u2013 Trustee Sara Hernandez, Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, Lauren James, and Corinne Sanchez \u2013 were selected for their leadership and dedication to making a positive, lasting impact on the Los Angeles community.<\/em><\/h4>\n

Los Angeles, Calif. \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem Hilda L. Solis honored four outstanding women in celebration of Women\u2019s History Month during today\u2019s Board of Supervisors meeting. The honorees \u2013 Trustee Sara Hernandez, Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, Lauren James, and Corinne Sanchez \u2013 were selected for their leadership and dedication to making a positive, lasting impact on the Los Angeles community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am inspired and moved by the commitment these four women have demonstrated to our communities, even through uncertainty and adversity,\u201d said Chair Pro Tem Solis. \u201cThis Women\u2019s History Month, we uplift their contributions to ensuring that those in Los Angeles County, including residents in the First District, have the tools and resources they need to improve their quality of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be included today, standing alongside the incredible women who continue the work of those who came before us,\u201d said Trustee Sara Hernandez. \u201cThe fight is far from over, and it’s on us to carry the torch with even more grit, determination, and strength. The challenges we face today demand that we keep pushing forward, and I\u2019m proud to be part of this movement. A big thank you to Chair Pro Tem Hilda Solis for her leadership and for keeping the flame burning bright!\u201d<\/p>\n

I am humbled to be recognized alongside powerhouse women by a powerhouse herself,\u201d said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado. \u201cThis month has been an important reminder of the strength in sisterhood and what women can accomplish when we work together.\u201d<\/p>\n

By honoring these four women, Solis emphasizes the importance of recognizing the role women play in shaping communities. These honorees represent a diverse group of leaders who have made remarkable strides in their respective fields such as education, policy, and community engagement.<\/p>\n

About the Honorees:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trustee Sara Hernandez<\/u>
\nSara Hernandez currently serves as a Board Trustee for the Los Angeles Community College District and brings years of experience as a public policy advocate through her work as an educator, non-profit leader, and public servant in city government. Before entering private practice, Sara’s career focused on advocating for local policies that improve public education, develop public infrastructure, promote economic development, and provide access and opportunities to under-resourced communities.<\/p>\n

Councilmember Ysabel Jurado<\/u>
\nCouncilmember Ysabel Jurado is a former tenants\u2019 rights attorney, affordable housing activist, single mother, and daughter of undocumented Filipino immigrants. She currently serves as a councilmember for the City of Los Angeles, focusing on expanding affordable housing, ending homelessness, supporting small businesses, tackling the climate crisis, and building a more just economy for all.<\/p>\n

Lauren James<\/u>
\nLauren James is the Director of Communications at Suburban Water Systems and Co-Founder of the grassroots movement Mama Bears for Change. She is also the President-elect for the Regional Chamber of Commerce San Gabriel Valley. She oversees internal and external communications, leads the Supplier Diversity and Conservation departments, and spearheads food distribution programs. Under her leadership, Suburban Water Systems has been recognized as a state leader in supplier diversity. Lauren works tirelessly to advance initiatives that promote equality and equity for all.<\/p>\n

Corinne Sanchez
\n<\/u>Corinne Sanchez is the President and CEO of Proyecto del Barrio, which serves the San Gabriel Valley and East Los Angeles communities. The organization provides culturally and linguistically responsive primary health care, child development services, and behavioral health programming. Under Corrine\u2019s leadership, Proyecto del Barrio continues to deliver high-quality programming and services to Los Angeles County communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
