The grant will support a new pilot program focused on composting and food waste diversion in the San Gabriel Valley through local partnerships, advancing regional sustainability and food security goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the official award now finalized,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrcs.usda.gov\/state-offices\/wisconsin\/news\/usda-invests-more-than-75-million-in#:~:text=The%20U.S.%20Department%20of%20Agriculture,and%20reduce%20greenhouse%20gas%20emissions\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nrcs.usda.gov\/state-offices\/wisconsin\/news\/usda-invests-more-than-75-million-in%23:~:text%3DThe%2520U.S.%2520Department%2520of%2520Agriculture,and%2520reduce%2520greenhouse%2520gas%2520emissions&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1745423224053000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3bAi_-vsXZgvu7_aLo2L52\">pilot projects<\/a>\u00a0are set to launch this summer in partnership with local food pantries that operate under FRESH SGV. The grant provides critical support to nonprofit organizations across the San Gabriel Valley that serve as sub-regional food recovery hubs and frequently face overwhelming volumes of food waste. These initiatives aim to strengthen sustainability efforts to help organizations divert food waste from landfills while also conserving edible food for those in need. Compost produced through this program will also support nutritious local farming initiatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe FRESH SGV Program has come a long way in just one year, feeding tens of thousands of San Gabriel Valley families in need and transforming the way we conserve edible food,\u201d<strong>\u00a0said Marisa Creter, SGVCOG Executive Director.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThis new funding by the USDA allows us to take this work one step further and will tackle hunger, food waste, and greenhouse gas emissions all at the same<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>time. It\u2019s a timely and meaningful investment as we celebrate Earth Day and continue to advance regional solutions that strengthen community resilience, reduce waste, and promote environmental stewardship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FRESH SGV launched in April 2024 and partners with Foothill Unity Center, God\u2019s Pantry, and Heart of Compassion Distribution to deliver food recovery services across 20 cities throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
