As a result, 10 individuals received notices to appear in court for alleged unlicensed contracting. One additional suspect will be referred to the Kern County District Attorney for similar violations.<\/p>\n<p>The operation was led by CSLB\u2019s Statewide Investigative Fraud Team (SWIFT) with support from the California Department of Insurance and the Kern County District Attorney\u2019s Office. Suspects submitted bids between $1,600 and $4,800 for home improvement work including plumbing, concrete, painting, and landscaping jobs \u2013 well above the $1,000 amount requiring licensure.<\/p>\n<p>Several individuals also are accused of violating state laws by asking for excessive down payments and advertising services without a valid license. California law limits down payments to 10 percent of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less, and requires license numbers to appear on all business materials.
