SACRAMENTO<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the deployment of an additional 18 highly skilled Urban Search and Rescue Team members to Texas to assist with ongoing response\u00a0efforts related to severe flooding impacts.<\/p>\n

The deployment includes a total of four units of Human Remains Detection (HRD) Teams, which also include a total of eight canines. The deployed teams are from the Los Angeles County, Riverside City, Menlo Park and Orange County Fire Departments.<\/p>\n

The 18\u00a0Urban Search and Rescue Team members sent today are in\u00a0addition to the 9 members<\/a>\u00a0deployed yesterday from Riverside City and Oakland City.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scale of loss and devastation Texas is experiencing right now is unfathomable. California is proud to lend a helping hand to our fellow Americans.\u201d<\/h4>\n

Governor\u00a0Gavin Newsom<\/strong><\/p>\n

During this deployment to Texas, California personnel will use their highly-developed and specialized skills to assist emergency operations in and around the hardest hit areas based on priorities and direction of state and local officials to assist with search and rescue operations.\u00a0 In close coordination with\u00a0Texas and through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC),\u00a0the\u00a0California Governor\u2019s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES)\u00a0is deploying these crews.<\/p>\n

\u201cCal OES deploys\u00a0these experienced teams to help those in need in Texas,\u201d\u00a0said Cal OES Director Nancy Ward.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThese search and rescue professionals have the training needed to navigate extreme conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Potential exists for additional flood impacts in the area.\u00a0California\u00a0stands ready to send additional resources as requested.<\/p>\n

Since 1992, California-based resources have been deployed to a long list of state, national, and even international disasters including 2017\u2019s Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, 1992 Hurricane Iniki (Hawaii), the\u00a01994 Northridge Earthquake<\/a><\/u><\/strong>,\u00a0the September 11, 2001 attacks<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, the\u00a0World Trade Center<\/a><\/u><\/strong>,\u00a0Hurricane Katrina<\/a><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Hurricane Rita<\/a><\/u><\/strong>,\u00a0Hurricane Ian<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, the\u00a0Camp Fire<\/a><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0in Paradise, the\u00a0Oklahoma City Bombing<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, and the\u00a0Montecito Mudslides<\/a><\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
