What you need to know:<\/strong>\u00a0New data shows California\u2019s power grid has run on 100% clean energy for some part of the day nearly every day this year \u2013 thanks to the state\u2019s commitment to investing in new resources.<\/p>\n

SACRAMENTO<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 More than 9 out of 10 days so far this year have been powered by 100% clean energy for at least some part of the day in California. In 2025, California\u2019s grid has run on 100% clean electricity for an average of 7 hours a day.<\/p>\n

Data compiled by the California Energy Commission<\/a>\u00a0shows clean energy has powered the equivalent of 51.9 days in the state \u2013 nearly 30% of the year to date running on 100% clean electricity. That already surpasses the amount of \u201cclean energy days\u201d last year \u2013 and represents a 750% increase in clean energy days since 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fourth largest economy in the world is running on more clean energy than ever before. Clean energy met our grid\u2019s total demand for some part of the day almost every day this year \u2013 the equivalent of 51 full days powered by 100% clean electricity.<\/p>\n

California has installed a record amount of clean energy \u2013 faster<\/h2>\n

The addition of new clean energy resources \u2013 including battery storage \u2013 to the state\u2019s grid has helped make clean energy days a reality in California.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Governor Newsom announced\u00a0more than 25,000 megawatts (MW) of new resources<\/a>\u00a0have been added to the state\u2019s electric grid over the past five years \u2014 an amount equivalent to roughly half of the state\u2019s\u00a0record peak demand in 2022<\/a>\u00a0and in addition to existing capacity.<\/p>\n

In 2024 alone, California\u00a0added approximately 7,000 megawatts<\/a>\u00a0(MW) of new clean energy nameplate capacity \u2014representing the largest single-year increase in clean energy capacity added to the grid in state history. This new figure broke the previous records set in both 2022 and 2023, marking a third consecutive year of unprecedented clean energy growth.<\/p>\n
