This year\u2019s honors for the Assessor\u2019s Office reflect a strong commitment to modernization, accessibility, and data-driven governance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"15fxjxl\" data-start=\"750\" data-end=\"800\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. <strong data-start=\"757\" data-end=\"800\">Transition to a New Technology Platform<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"1195\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After years of planning and a $120 million investment, the Assessor\u2019s Office completed a successful transition to a modern, cloud-based system known internally as the Assessor\u2019s Modernization Project (AMP). The transformation replaced a decades-old, green-screen DOS mainframe and paper-based filing system with a digital platform capable of real-time data access and heightened cybersecurity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1403\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This digital overhaul has not only streamlined internal operations but also improved public service delivery, representing a major milestone in the department\u2019s ten-year technology modernization initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1l8crii\" data-start=\"1405\" data-end=\"1456\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. <strong data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1456\">Online Filing for Disaster Relief Claims<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1458\" data-end=\"1677\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In response to the devastating Eaton and Palisades Fires earlier this year, which impacted thousands of property owners, the Assessor\u2019s Office launched an innovative digital portal for submitting disaster relief claims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"2086\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Previously a paper-heavy, delayed process, the new online filing system\u2014developed collaboratively by the Public Affairs and Communications and Information Technology divisions\u2014allowed residents to file claims from mobile devices and track the progress in real time. This expedited access enabled affected property owners to receive assessment reductions and cash refunds within a few months after the fires.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"bfsded\" data-start=\"2088\" data-end=\"2144\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. <strong data-start=\"2095\" data-end=\"2144\">Launch of the Assessor\u2019s Data Science Program<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2146\" data-end=\"2553\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The third award celebrates the Assessor\u2019s groundbreaking Data Science Program, designed to bring greater transparency, equity, and precision to property assessments throughout Los Angeles County. By integrating socio-economic research with the County\u2019s vast real estate data, the program offers valuable insights into ownership patterns and housing market disparities\u2014data that was previously underutilized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2555\" data-end=\"2954\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This initiative empowers policymakers and the public with open, accessible intelligence to drive equity-focused housing strategies. Internally, it has already improved data accuracy and modernized assessment practices to reflect real-world conditions.
