SACRAMENTO \u2013\u00a0Moving swiftly to support local and state response efforts to the Canyon Fire, Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the Canyon Fire burning in Los Angeles County.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

The fast-moving Canyon Fire ignited on August 7, 2025 just after 1:30 p.m. near Lake Piru in Ventura County and rapidly spread into Los Angeles County. More than\u00a0<\/span>4,850 acres<\/a>\u00a0have burned, threatening several communities in Los Angeles County and forcing the evacuation of more than 4,300 residents and putting an additional 12,000 under evacuation warnings.<\/p>\n

The FMAG, which is provided through the FEMA on a cost-share basis, will assist local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75 percent reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs.<\/span><\/p>\n
