Solis, and co-authored by Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, to launch the \u201cKeep Your Coverage\u201d campaign. This initiative aims to provide multilingual and culturally competent information and critical resources, connect beneficiaries to work and volunteer opportunities as well as American Job Centers, and collaborate with community health workers and\u00a0<em>promotoras<\/em>\u00a0to help County residents maintain their enrollment in Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) amid new and expanded work requirements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe County has a moral responsibility to do what it can to help residents enrolled in Medicaid and SNAP preserve their benefits \u2013 we cannot let people fall behind,\u201d said Chair Pro Tem Solis. \u201cToday\u2019s motion is about delivering on our due diligence help our residents understand how to keep their coverage and connect them to vital work and volunteer opportunities to help formalize their work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p align=\"left\">\u00a0On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed the so-called \u201cBig Beautiful Bill\u201d into law \u2013 a reconciliation bill that includes nearly $1 trillion cuts to Medicaid and SNAP over ten years. With 13.4 million Californians relying on Medicaid for health coverage, and another 5.4 million Californians receiving food assistance through SNAP, the bill eliminates access to essential safety programs on health, nutrition, and economic assistance among the County\u2019s most vulnerable residents. In fact, approximately 3.5 million Medicaid enrollees in California are at risk of losing their benefits because of work requirements, while 368,000 individuals will be at risk of losing their food assistance in California as a result of this bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p align=\"left\">Despite exemptions, new and expanded work requirements and eligibility criteria may impact working adults, children, older adults, veterans, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable and at-need residents due to unnecessary administrative barriers.\u202f As the County prepares for the implementation of these new eligibility and work requirements, it is imperative to proactively ensure that eligible Medicaid and SNAP enrollees can continue to receive the healthcare coverage and food assistance they have a right to access.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cWhen our neighbors\u2019 healthcare and food security are at risk, we must act swiftly and decisively. By working together, we can remove barriers and keep eligible residents connected to the services they deserve,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath<\/strong>. \u201cEveryone deserves the dignity of knowing they won\u2019t lose care or food because of bureaucracy.
