That\u2019s why our state and our Governor are deeply committed to fighting back. Here in California, we\u2019re standing up for the rich tapestry of all our cultures and people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith hate crimes at near record levels, we\u2019re fortunate to have a Governor who is taking concrete action to help protect our communities,\u201d\u00a0said California Civil Rights Department Director Kevin Kish<\/strong>. \u201cWhile the federal government is ripping support away, our state is heeding the call. Trump abandons crime victims and local communities<\/h2>\n

From\u00a0canceling hundreds of millions in grants for gun-violence and hate prevention<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0ending a key federal community peacemakers office<\/a>, the Trump Administration\u2019s actions directly threaten public safety. The federal Community Relations Service, also known as America\u2019s Peacemaker, which has been a significant tool to help local communities nationwide address and limit the potential for violent conflict, is reportedly being dissolved after decades of success.<\/p>\n

Rather than supporting proven programs, the Trump Administration is\u00a0defunding public safety<\/a>\u00a0and continues to waste time and resources on\u00a0erasing evidence of far-right extremism online<\/a>,\u00a0helping an out-of-touch actor cosplay as an immigration agent<\/a>, and\u00a0losing in court over attempts to use federal troops as a personal police force<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Leading the Fight Against Hate<\/h2>\n

Governor Newsom is taking comprehensive action to combat the rise in reported hate crimes, including launching California\u2019s\u00a0first-ever statewide hotline<\/a>\u202fto report acts of hate and continuing to provide resources to\u00a0protect nonprofits and places of worship<\/a>.<\/p>\n
