As dusk settled over the Beaubourg district on Tuesday evening, bursts of smoke and color rippled across the Parisian skyline. The fa\u00e7ade of the Centre Pompidou\u2014long regarded as a symbol of modern art\u2019s restless spirit\u2014was momentarily transformed into a living canvas. The artist behind the spectacle: Cai Guo-Qiang, the Chinese-born master of gunpowder and light.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a spectacular send-off marking the museum\u2019s temporary closure for renovation, Cai staged \u201cThe Last Carnival,\u201d<\/strong> a 20-minute daytime fireworks performance that fused Chinese tradition, artificial intelligence, and architectural iconography into one unforgettable explosion of art.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pompidou closed its doors on September 22<\/strong> for a five-year renovation project. Before the building went dark, the institution sought a gesture bold enough to match its own legacy\u2014and found it in Cai, whose pyrotechnic works have illuminated skylines from Doha to New York. On Tuesday, before crowds gathered for Art Basel Paris<\/strong>, the Pompidou\u2019s fa\u00e7ade became his latest canvas.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor the first time in its history, the Centre Pompidou\u2019s fa\u00e7ade becomes a monumental painting,\u201d said curator J\u00e9r\u00f4me Neutres<\/strong>, who described Cai\u2019s performance as \u201chis most profound and complex work yet\u2014an explosive dialogue between AI and the Parisian public.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The performance unfolded in three acts\u2014The Banquet, The Dawn of AI,<\/em> and The Last Carnival<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span>
Each chapter carried its own rhythm and resonance:<\/span><\/p>\n
