Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger<\/strong>\u00a0recognized outstanding community leaders, entrepreneurs, and cultural organizations from the\u00a0Fifth District<\/a>\u2014the northern region of Los Angeles County\u2014 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring their contributions to the County\u2019s cultural and entrepreneurial fabric.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince Hispanic Heritage Month spans from September through October, I\u2019m proud to close out this celebration by recognizing some very special honorees from the Fifth District,\u201d said\u00a0Supervisor Barger<\/strong>. \u201cIf you take a closer look at today\u2019s honorees, a clear theme emerges:\u00a0Feeding the soul.<\/em>\u00a0Whether it\u2019s through food, the arts, or community connection, each of these individuals are investing joy and unity into the lives of residents. Los Angeles County is stronger and more vibrant because of their presence, contributions, and talents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Restaurant Owners and Entrepreneurs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Among this year\u2019s honorees were several Fifth District businesses that exemplify excellence, perseverance, and community pride.<\/p>\n

Mi Ranchito Mexican Bar and Grill<\/strong>, serving the Antelope Valley since 1997 across 11 locations, has become a beloved staple for authentic Mexican cuisine and hospitality. Owner\u00a0Ramiro Maldonado<\/strong>\u00a0accepted the recognition.<\/p>\n

In Altadena,\u00a0El Patron Mexican Food Restaurant<\/strong>\u00a0continues to stand as a cornerstone of community strength and resilience, embodying the spirit of \u201cAltadena Strong\u201d as residents recover and rebuild. Owner\u00a0Maggie Cortez<\/strong>\u00a0attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Mijares Mexican Restaurant<\/strong>, Pasadena\u2019s oldest Mexican restaurant, has been family-run for more than 100 years, preserving the legacy of founder\u00a0Jesucita Mijares<\/strong>\u00a0through three generations.<\/p>\n

Sweet Savory Caf\u00e9 and Bakery<\/strong>\u00a0in San Dimas, founded in 2019 by\u00a0Haydee Diaz<\/strong>, celebrates global flavors and cultures and has tripled its business in just three years.<\/p>\n

Porto\u2019s Bakery and Caf\u00e9<\/strong>, a true Los Angeles County institution, continues to carry forward the inspiring legacy of founder\u00a0Rosa Porto<\/strong>\u00a0through her children and grandchildren, delighting customers across six regional locations.\u00a0Beatriz \u201cBetty\u201d Porto<\/strong>\u00a0accepted the recognition on behalf of the family.<\/p>\n

Performing Arts and Cultural Institutions<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Supervisor Barger also honored cultural and performing arts organizations that have made a profound impact on the region\u2019s artistic and social landscape.<\/p>\n

About\u2026Productions<\/strong>, established in 1988 by CalArts graduates, continues to elevate untold stories and diverse cultural perspectives that reflect the rich experiences of Latin America and Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Floricanto Dance Theatre<\/strong>, founded in 1975, is the oldest professional Mexican folk dance troupe in Los Angeles, preserving and celebrating Mexico\u2019s folkloric traditions through authentically staged and vibrantly costumed performances.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Pasadena Latino Heritage Committee<\/strong>\u00a0proudly hosts the annual Latino Heritage Festival, which this year celebrated the theme\u00a0\u201cA Proud Past, A Hopeful Future\u201d<\/em>\u00a0through art, food, and community engagement.<\/p>\n

Viver Brasil Dance Company<\/strong>, founded in 1997, blends Afro-Brazilian ancestral traditions with contemporary performance to illuminate themes of social justice and resilience.<\/p>\n
