The word <em data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"864\">\u201cAmal\u201d<\/em> means \u201chope\u201d in Arabic. Director Eros Zhao and producer Maria Giacchino joined the audience for an intimate post-screening discussion, moderated by Dr. Jeff Kryka, a Hollywood composer known for his work on <em data-start=\"1385\" data-end=\"1396\">Star Wars<\/em> and <em data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1417\">Jurassic World<\/em>. The panel delved into the film\u2019s exploration of the harmony between music, art, and humanity.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1516\" data-end=\"1729\">\n<p data-start=\"1518\" data-end=\"1729\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWe\u2019re not here to provide answers,\u201d Zhao said. \u201cWe use music to listen, to respond, and to understand. Bishara Haroni, raised in Palestinian culture, first encountered classical music by chance during a childhood performance. Yaron Kohlberg, a prodigy who made his debut at nine, quickly rose to prominence in Israel\u2019s music scene. Despite their contrasting backgrounds, the two met in 2008 during a peace-themed concert\u2014an encounter that sparked an extraordinary musical partnership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2456\" data-end=\"2846\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Their onstage chemistry led to the birth of <em data-start=\"2500\" data-end=\"2510\">Duo Amal<\/em>, and since then, their music has become a living dialogue between cultures, one that challenges prejudice and celebrates shared humanity. Through lyrical cinematography and heartfelt interviews, Zhao\u2019s documentary reveals how their collaboration evolved into a lifelong testament to empathy, resilience, and the healing power of art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2920\" data-end=\"3338\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Dr. Eros Zhao, born in China, studied traditional Chinese painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts before pursuing advanced degrees in the United States. He earned a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he later taught, as well as a Master\u2019s in Chinese Art History from UCLA and a Ph.D. in Art Management from Shih Chien University in Taiwan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3340\" data-end=\"3704\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">An internationally active filmmaker and artist, Zhao has collaborated with institutions such as the Smithsonian Channel, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Denver Art Museum, and Steinway &amp; Sons. His previous films have been nominated for the <em data-start=\"3606\" data-end=\"3653\">Austin Film Festival\u2019s Best Documentary Short<\/em> and have received multiple international awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3706\" data-end=\"3978\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Beyond filmmaking, Zhao is a respected scholar and collector of Chinese painting and Buddhist art. He was the first to translate his mentor Dr. Fu Shen\u2019s classic work <em data-start=\"3873\" data-end=\"3901\">Studies in Connoisseurship<\/em> into Chinese, advancing cross-cultural art dialogue between East and West.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3980\" data-end=\"4141\">\n<p data-start=\"3982\" data-end=\"4141\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cMusic has no borders,\u201d Zhao noted. \u201cArt is the universal language of humanity. Even in the most turbulent times, understanding and hope can still be heard.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4198\" data-end=\"4518\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following screenings in San Francisco, London, Copenhagen, and Tel Aviv, <em data-start=\"4287\" data-end=\"4300\">AMAL | HOPE<\/em> continues to move audiences worldwide.
