The CHP proudly welcomes these new officers and looks forward to the remarkable achievements they will make throughout their decades of service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During their 26 weeks in the CHP Academy, cadets trained in vehicle code enforcement, crash and criminal investigations, emergency vehicle operations, and officer safety. The Academy\u2019s curriculum also focuses on legal responsibilities, communication, ethics, and cultural awareness, in order to prepare cadets to serve California\u2019s diverse population. Earlier this week, the cadets took part in a 5-mile run as one of the last parts of their training. The largest overall declines in violent crime were reported by the police departments in Oakland (25%) and San Francisco (21%). Another<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=4eff775a14&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D4eff775a14%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1765077260704000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1oE01_HWYcKnWs5KHD8pTG\">\u00a0data set<\/a>\u00a0released by the California Department of Justice found that nearly every major crime category, including violent crime and homicides, dropped in 2024. California\u2019s 2024 homicide rate is now the second lowest it has been since at least 1966.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In August 2024, Governor Newsom signed into law\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=35d2edcde0&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D35d2edcde0%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1765077260704000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0eli4lP-pzHdzA3IiBBCfc\">the most significant bipartisan legislation to crack down on property crime in modern California history.<\/a>\u00a0Building on the state\u2019s robust laws and record public safety funding, these bipartisan bills offer new tools to bolster ongoing efforts to hold criminals accountable for smash-and-grab robberies, property crime, retail theft, and auto burglaries. While California\u2019s crime rate remains at near-historic lows, these laws help California adapt to evolving criminal tactics to ensure perpetrators are effectively held accountable.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the largest-ever state investment to fight organized retail crime, Governor Newsom announced in 2023 that the state\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=543e306fc7&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D543e306fc7%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1765077260704000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2PD0StpCFKzSA0qnPvioe1\">allocated<\/a>\u00a0$267 million to 55 communities to help them combat this issue.
