The letter followed multiple outreach efforts by Supervisor Wong\u2019s office both before and after the December 20 citywide outage, as concerns continued to escalate over repeated service disruptions beginning December 7.<\/div>\n<div>In its response, PG&amp;E acknowledged that the frequency of outages and the level of reliability experienced by Sunset District residents this month are unacceptable. The response was issued after the sixth power outage affecting the district this month. While some outages have been brief, others have lasted up to three days, creating significant hardship for residents, seniors, caregivers, and local businesses.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cResidents should not have to worry about when the lights might go out,\u201d said Supervisor Alan Wong. \u201cSeniors and caregivers rely on electricity for medical and assistive devices, families depend on power to heat their homes during cold nights, and communities rely on consistent service to carry out daily life, especially during the holiday season. Reliable electricity is a basic necessity.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>PG&amp;E has proposed a meeting, including with CEO Sumeet Singh, to discuss recent events and next steps. Supervisor Alan Wong is calling for concrete actions to address both immediate impacts and long-term reliability. These include establishing a single, designated PG&amp;E liaison for District 4 outages with direct coordination with Supervisor Alan Wong\u2019s office; providing real-time, time-stamped outage updates that clearly explain when and why estimated restoration times change; and ensuring multilingual outage notifications.<\/div>\n<div>Supervisor Alan Wong is also urging a simplified claims process with automatic credits for repeated outages, dedicated assistance for seniors, caregivers, and medically vulnerable residents, and clear guidance and follow-up for small businesses seeking reimbursement for lost revenue. In addition, Supervisor Alan Wong is calling for proactive emergency planning, including backup power planning for senior housing, medical users, and community hubs, as well as stronger coordination with city departments on warming centers during winter outages.<\/div>\n<div>Supervisor Alan Wong will continue listening to community concerns and advocating for residents\u2019 needs. He will continue pressing for accountability, improved communication, and long-term infrastructure solutions to ensure reliable power for the Sunset District. He emphasized that residents need more than explanations after the fact.
