Solis reaffirming support for the Affordable Care Act and authorizing participation in a legal effort to protect access to affordable health coverage.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Since its implementation, the Affordable Care Act has played a critical role in expanding health insurance coverage, lowering uninsured\u00a0rates\u00a0and strengthening public health systems. In Los Angeles County, the law has helped residents gain access to preventive care, mental health\u00a0services\u00a0and essential medical treatment, while also reducing uncompensated care costs for hospitals and clinics.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Recent federal changes under the Trump administration\u00a0would create new barriers to coverage, including shorter enrollment periods,\u00a0additional\u00a0<wbr \/>administrative requirements and policies that may limit eligibility for low-income individuals and families. These changes could result in millions of people nationwide losing health coverage and place added pressure on local health systems and safety net providers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cThe Affordable Care Act has been a cornerstone of our healthcare system and a lifeline for families across Los Angeles County, especially for\u00a0working families and communities that have historically\u00a0faced challenges affording\u00a0care,\u201d said\u00a0Chair Solis.\u00a0\u201cAt a time when so many\u00a0families\u00a0are already struggling with rising costs and uncertainty, we cannot afford policies that make it harder to get or keep health coverage. This motion reflects\u00a0my\u00a0commitment to protecting access to quality, affordable care,\u00a0and to standing up for the health and well-being of\u00a0our most vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The motion directs\u00a0County Counsel to join an amicus curiae brief in the case\u00a0<em>Columbus v. Kennedy<\/em>, currently pending in federal court, in support of efforts challenging the federal rule changes.
