Tapia II announced today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Court is committed to\u00a0fostering, supporting,\u00a0and\u00a0expanding\u00a0the many ADR resources\u00a0available\u00a0to help Los Angeles County litigants resolve their disputes without going to trial,\u201d\u00a0Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II said.\u00a0\u201cThe contributions\u00a0by\u00a0attorneys and mediators who volunteer their time is invaluable, and we\u00a0are deeply grateful\u00a0for their service. Their efforts\u00a0frequently\u00a0lead to mutually agreeable settlements\u00a0that\u00a0streamline\u00a0<wbr \/>case resolution,\u00a0strengthen court operations,\u00a0and allow litigants\u00a0to find peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Court is\u00a0incredibly\u00a0appreciative of\u00a0its\u00a0volunteer mediators for their work\u00a0resolving\u00a0civil disputes at a time when civil resources are\u00a0under significant\u00a0strain. Last year, the Court received over\u00a098,000\u00a0unlimited\u00a0civil filings, a\u00a038% increase in\u00a0unlimited\u00a0civil filings since 2022,\u00a0placing\u00a0additional\u00a0<wbr \/>pressure\u00a0on judicial resources.\u00a0In 2025,\u00a0the Court received more than 195,000\u00a0limited civil filings,\u00a0an increase of 87%\u00a0since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Court\u00a0 has\u00a0multiple\u00a0ADR\u00a0programs\u00a0<wbr \/>across\u00a0small\u00a0claims,\u00a0unlawful\u00a0<wbr \/>detainer\u00a0(eviction),\u00a0limited and\u00a0unlimited\u00a0civil,\u00a0civil\u00a0<wbr \/>harassment,\u00a0family\u00a0law,\u00a0and\u00a0<wbr \/>probate\u00a0case types.\u00a0In\u00a02025, the Court processed\u00a0more than 10,000 referrals to ADR programs,\u00a0a\u00a0result of the\u00a0contribution\u00a0of hundreds of\u00a0mediators\u00a0and settlement officer\u00a0volunteers.\u00a0On average, the programs reported a 50% resolution rate\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0Mediation Week, the Court\u00a0will\u00a0host an ADR Volunteer Recognition Ceremony\u00a0and\u00a0present special recognition to\u00a0more than 300\u00a0mediators and settlement officers\u00a0who had\u00a0more than five\u00a0ADR\u00a0volunteer assignments in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><b>ADR\u00a0Programs:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Resolve Law LA (RLLA)<\/b>\u00a0provides three-hour virtual\u00a0no-cost\u00a0Mandatory Settlement Conferences for personal injury and non-complex employment cases.<\/li>\n<li><b>Dispute Resolution Program Act (DRPA)<\/b>\u00a0provides day-of-hearing\u00a0no-cost\u00a0<wbr \/>mediation services for small claims, unlawful detainer, and civil harassment matters, primarily for self-represented litigants.<\/li>\n<li><b>Temporary Judge Unlawful Detainer Settlement<\/b>\u00a0program deploys temporary judges to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the\u00a0no-cost\u00a0<wbr \/>settlement of eviction cases on the day of trial at four courthouse locations:\u00a0Stanley Mosk, Governor George Deukmejian (Long Beach),\u00a0Compton\u00a0or Santa Monica courthouses.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Mediation Center of Los Angeles (MCLA)<\/b>\u00a0manages a panel of mediators that the Court may refer unlimited civil or probate cases to for\u00a0low-cost\u00a0mediation.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Civil Mediation Resource List<\/b>\u00a0includes organizations that have agreed to provide a limited number of low-cost or no-cost mediation sessions with attorney mediators or retired judges.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Family Law Daily Settlement Officer\u00a0(DSO)<\/b>\u00a0program provides voluntary\u00a0no-cost\u00a0settlement conferences for parties who appear in family law matters in-person or virtually.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Pro Bono Probate Settlement<\/b>\u00a0program provides parties with a\u00a0no-cost\u00a0opportunity\u00a0to resolve probate, trust, estate,\u00a0guardianship\u00a0or conservatorship cases.<\/li>\n<li>Members of the\u00a0Court\u2019s\u00a0<b>Mediation Volunteer Panel (MVP)<\/b>\u00a0provide three hours of\u00a0no-cost\u00a0mediation for unlimited civil cases referred to the MVP.\u00a0In 2025,\u00a0MVP mediators conducted more than 1,000 mediation sessions,\u00a0reporting a 47% resolution rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><b>Join the Mediation Volunteer Panel:\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<p>Attorneys\u00a0interested in serving on the Court\u2019s MVP may\u00a0learn more about the program and download an application\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/click.communications.lacourt.org\/?qs=eyJkZWtJZCI6ImRhODU4MTAzLTgyYmItNGE1OS05ODU5LTY0ZjU1NmZjZjlkYSIsImRla1ZlcnNpb24iOjEsIml2IjoiSEE5WU9leDBEeS9weG1SY2hRbWZDdz09IiwiY2lwaGVyVGV4dCI6IkhPeWxCdHorSnlhcnc1UnJpN0tVZjBGSHlZWktITE5tUDlqODJoNFZQNm5iUm8vK1lJT0Zsd2ZQdUloR25mTEdDeThHdUpHMkxhUE94V0dkVjZmS2dCd1BXRG5zZEE4djZjWmtYSVVKbndzPSIsImF1dGhUYWciOiJDeThHdUpHMkxhUE94V0dkVjZmS2dBPT0ifQ%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/click.communications.lacourt.org\/?qs%3DeyJkZWtJZCI6ImRhODU4MTAzLTgyYmItNGE1OS05ODU5LTY0ZjU1NmZjZjlkYSIsImRla1ZlcnNpb24iOjEsIml2IjoiSEE5WU9leDBEeS9weG1SY2hRbWZDdz09IiwiY2lwaGVyVGV4dCI6IkhPeWxCdHorSnlhcnc1UnJpN0tVZjBGSHlZWktITE5tUDlqODJoNFZQNm5iUm8vK1lJT0Zsd2ZQdUloR25mTEdDeThHdUpHMkxhUE94V0dkVjZmS2dCd1BXRG5zZEE4djZjWmtYSVVKbndzPSIsImF1dGhUYWciOiJDeThHdUpHMkxhUE94V0dkVjZmS2dBPT0ifQ%253D%253D&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1773994917335000&amp;usg=AOvVaw34YNFQVjYUJcS6f5v5MrPP\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For those attorneys who do not have\u00a0previous\u00a0training, the Court offers\u00a0a 25-hour, MCLE-certified\u00a0mediation training\u00a0program.\u00a0The\u00a0next\u00a0<wbr \/>training\u00a0will take\u00a0place\u00a0virtually\u00a0over three days, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 18, 20 and 22.
