The average Californian with natural gas service will see a bill credit of about $40 this month.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2014, the state&#8217;s Cap-and-Invest program has delivered $16 billion in bill refunds back to residential investor-owned utility customers. This year, California will add to that and provide a total of $1.4 billion in residential credits \u2014 $894 million for electric customers and $520 million for natural gas customers. 2030.<\/p>\n<h2>\n<strong id=\"m_4733506129948156620docs-internal-guid-7bfe3d94-7fff-5cab-90c8-b44e9f9f4db5\">What&#8217;s changing and why<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong id=\"m_4733506129948156620docs-internal-guid-7bfe3d94-7fff-5cab-90c8-b44e9f9f4db5\"><u>Electric climate credits<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nUnder the CPUC&#8217;s proposed decision on April 30th, electric Climate Credits will shift from their traditional spring and fall schedule (April and October) to the months when electricity bills peak.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><strong>PG&amp;E, SCE, and SDG&amp;E customers:\u00a0<\/strong>credits will now arrive in August and September when summer heat drives bills the highest.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The new electric credit schedule would take effect for the 2026 credit year.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong id=\"m_4733506129948156620docs-internal-guid-7bfe3d94-7fff-5cab-90c8-b44e9f9f4db5\"><u>Natural gas climate credits<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nBy aligning credits with peak usage periods, the program maximizes real financial impact for households during the most expensive months of the year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The proposed decision also shifts future natural gas credits earlier in the year, when natural gas customers typically have higher winter bills.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">This shift will begin in February 2027.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This shift implements Assembly Bill 1207,\u00a0<a Program<\/a>, which is managed by the California Air Resources Board. Companies that emit large amounts of greenhouse gases must purchase allowances for their emissions. That revenue is returned directly to residential customers as a credit on their utility bills.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to electric bill refunds, California\u2019s Cap-and-Invest program has generated\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=1b7fdeb230&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D1b7fdeb230%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1776395029362000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0pfWinOmlZ-_y4yEW6Esdf\">$33 billion in climate investments<\/a>, creating more than 120,000 jobs and cutting millions of tons of carbon emissions. The investments include a wide range of solutions such as putting affordable housing near job centers, building the nation\u2019s first high-speed rail, and adding zero-emission transportation options in underserved communities.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><strong id=\"m_4733506129948156620docs-internal-guid-7bfe3d94-7fff-5cab-90c8-b44e9f9f4db5\">California\u2019s climate leadership<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Pollution is down and the economy is up. Greenhouse gas emissions in California are down\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=afffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55&amp;id=75f906a301&amp;e=0a97a8055b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mclist.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dafffa58af0d1d42fee9a20e55%26id%3D75f906a301%26e%3D0a97a8055b&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1776395029363000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1YkNTN7jVhdIA3e3IEqD42\">21% since 2000<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 even as the state\u2019s GDP increased 81% in that same time period, all while becoming the world\u2019s fourth largest economy.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">California also continues to set clean energy records.
