SACRAMENTO \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that millions of California households will see automatic bill credits beginning this month through the California Climate Credit. The average Californian with natural gas service will see a bill credit of about $40 this month.<\/p>\n

Since 2014, the state’s Cap-and-Invest program has delivered $16 billion in bill refunds back to residential investor-owned utility customers. This year, California will add to that and provide a total of $1.4 billion in residential credits \u2014 $894 million for electric customers and $520 million for natural gas customers. An additional $73 million for small businesses and $114 million for Industry Assistance adds to the $1.9 billion already distributed since 2014 in Small Business Climate Credits and California Industry Assistance.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

A decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), set for a vote on April 30, would\u00a0shift<\/a>\u00a0when most electric credits are delivered to Californians to the hottest, highest-bill months of the year when families need relief the most.<\/p>\n

The proposed changes stem from historic legislation that the Legislature passed and Governor Newsom\u00a0signed<\/a>\u00a0last year to make sure Californians see maximum benefit from the state’s Cap-and-Invest Program, which is expected to generate $10 billion for electric bill Climate Credits through 2030.<\/p>\n
