Attendees included Congresswoman <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Judy Chu<\/span><\/span>, local elected officials, labor leaders, and Chinatown community representatives, all showing support for Becerra\u2019s campaign for governor of California.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"1283\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The rally comes as California\u2019s 2026 gubernatorial primary race remains highly competitive, with voter support spread across multiple candidates. According to an Emerson College Polling survey released in mid-May, Becerra and Republican political commentator <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Steve Hilton<\/span><\/span> are currently among the leading candidates in the race.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1285\" data-end=\"1486\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The poll showed Becerra leading the Democratic field with approximately 19% support, while Hilton was polling between 17% and 19%, with particularly strong backing among conservative Republican voters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1488\" data-end=\"1886\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In her remarks, Judy Chu said she has known Becerra for 36 years, dating back to his early days serving as a state assemblymember representing Monterey Park and the San Gabriel Valley. She noted that the two later served together in Congress, and she has witnessed his long career in public service, including his time as California Attorney General and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"2083\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chu emphasized Becerra\u2019s longstanding advocacy for minority communities and vulnerable populations, particularly on issues such as language access, immigration reform, and healthcare protections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2191\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cHe understands our communities and truly understands the challenges facing the AAPI community,\u201d Chu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2521\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She also highlighted Becerra\u2019s past representation of diverse communities including Chinatown, Little Tokyo, and Filipinotown during his years in Congress. He said Asian Americans and other minority groups continue to face acts of hate and discrimination, and stressed the importance of defending democracy and voting rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2941\" data-end=\"3152\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He argued that California needs leaders who understand the real struggles facing immigrant families and working-class communities, including rising living costs, healthcare challenges, and housing affordability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3154\" data-end=\"3248\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWe must make sure every community is heard and every family has opportunities,\u201d Becerra said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3250\" data-end=\"3513\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Becerra also thanked the AAPI community for its longtime support and emphasized his deep ties to the San Gabriel Valley. He noted that he once lived in Monterey Park and previously represented the area, giving him a close understanding of AAPI community concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3515\" data-end=\"3812\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During a media interview, Becerra said he was encouraged to see growing support from AAPI community leaders across California.
