LOS ANGELES<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 LA General Medical Center, part of\u00a0LA\u00a0Health Services, hosted a large-scale Sidewalk CPR training event today, bringing together healthcare professionals, emergency responders, and community members to learn lifesaving Hands-Only CPR techniques.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Held during National CPR & AED Awareness Week, the event provided free CPR training for staff, patients, and members of the surrounding community, empowering participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond during cardiac emergencies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The event was conducted in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles City Fire Department, and the American Heart Association, highlighting the region\u2019s coordinated approach to emergency response and public safety.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As\u00a0one\u00a0of\u00a0the largest\u00a09-1-1 Medical Receiving\u00a0Centers\u00a0and safety-net hospitals\u00a0in Los Angeles County, LA General Medical Center treats approximately one-quarter of the\u00a0emergency department visits in the downtown Los Angeles metropolitan area\u00a0and serves as a cornerstone of the region\u2019s emergency\u00a0medical\u00a0care system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAt LA General Medical Center, we see every day how critical the first few minutes of an\u00a0<\/em>emergency can be,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>said Jorge Orozco, Chief Executive Officer of LA General\u00a0<\/strong>Medical Center<\/strong>. “Our teams care for some of the most critically\u00a0ill and\u00a0injured patients in\u00a0<\/em>the region. When community members know CPR, they become part of the lifesaving\u00a0<\/em>chain that begins long before a patient reaches the hospital.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Each year, thousands of people experience cardiac arrest outside of hospitals in Los Angeles County, and most occur in homes. Immediate CPR performed by a bystander can double or even triple a person\u2019s chance of survival, yet fewer than half of victims receive CPR before emergency responders arrive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cLos Angeles County operates one of the largest and most complex\u00a0EMS\u00a0systems in the\u00a0<\/em>country, and every cardiac arrest response begins long before paramedics arrive,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>said\u00a0<\/strong>Richard Tadeo, Director of Los Angeles County EMS Agency.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cBystander CPR is one\u00a0<\/em>of the most critical links in the chain of survival. Community training events like Sidewalk\u00a0<\/em>CPR ensure more residents are prepared to act in those first lifesaving minutes before\u00a0<\/em>EMS reaches the scene.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Hands-Only CPR focuses on calling 9-1-1 and pushing\u00a0hard and fast\u00a0in the center of the chest, helping keep blood and oxygen circulating to vital organs until paramedics arrive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The event underscores the importance of collaboration between healthcare providers, emergency responders, and community members in strengthening public preparedness and improving survival from cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
