{"id":81523,"date":"2026-06-07T22:55:21","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T05:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=81523"},"modified":"2026-06-07T22:55:21","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T05:55:21","slug":"chinese-taipei-contributes-usd1-5-million-to-apecs-first-healthcare-sub-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lapost.us\/?p=81523","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Taipei Contributes USD1.5 Million to APEC\u2019s First Healthcare Sub-Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Issued by the APEC Secretariat<\/em><\/p>\n<div><em>Shanghai, People&#8217;s Republic of China, 8 June 2026<\/em>Chinese Taipei has contributed USD1.5 million to establish APEC&#8217;s first dedicated healthcare sub-fund, targeting the region&#8217;s rapidly aging populations and widening gaps in access to care.<\/p>\n<p>A memorandum of understanding formalizing the contribution was signed by Jonathan Chien-Yuan Sun, APEC Senior Official for Chinese Taipei, and Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat, in Shanghai on the sidelines of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/us.list-manage.com\/qUgP9DtkKk3?e=f0773073fa&amp;c2id=bc053c42553905f12de54bba718214c4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/us.list-manage.com\/qUgP9DtkKk3?e%3Df0773073fa%26c2id%3Dbc053c42553905f12de54bba718214c4&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780974632397000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3BFcaQh8VrLLbBypMqcMmF\">Second APEC Senior Officials\u2019 Meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Through the new sub-fund, APEC member economies will be able to implement projects across key patient-centered healthcare priorities, from strengthening integrated primary care and deploying digital health tools including telemedicine to promoting policy research on aging and chronic disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis newly established Sub-fund for the Future of Healthcare responds to APEC\u2019s growing emphasis on digital health,\u201d said Sun. &#8220;It represents the first APEC sub-fund dedicated specifically to healthcare.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With many APEC economies facing rapidly aging societies and disparities in healthcare, the contribution will support the development of future-ready healthcare systems by deploying artificial intelligence (AI), other emerging technologies and innovative policies to improve accessibility, efficiency and equitable health access to all communities in the Asia-Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>Building healthcare systems capable of serving the region&#8217;s diverse and growing populations requires coordination across sectors. The sub-fund places public-private partnerships at its core, bringing together governments, industry, research institutions and civil society to drive healthcare innovation at scale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Asia-Pacific navigates profound demographic shifts that will reshape the region\u2019s economy and workforce, building healthcare systems that help keep older people active and engaged in society is foundational to the resilience and inclusivity of APEC\u2019s economic future,\u201d said Pedrosa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chinese Taipei&#8217;s contribution establishes a dedicated mechanism for member economies to engage in policy dialogues and capacity building initiatives on healthcare to strengthen our members ability to address these challenges,\u201d concluded Pedrosa.<\/p>\n<p>APEC-funded projects play a vital role in translating the policy directions of APEC Economic Leaders and Ministers into practical actions that deliver tangible benefits to people and businesses across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2021, APEC has initiated more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/us.list-manage.com\/hEMEkd_6pOd?e=f0773073fa&amp;c2id=bc053c42553905f12de54bba718214c4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/us.list-manage.com\/hEMEkd_6pOd?e%3Df0773073fa%26c2id%3Dbc053c42553905f12de54bba718214c4&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780974632397000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0g6fgN5mQn_7HjQkBiZynG\">1,400 projects and initiatives<\/a>\u00a0across the region in various sectors.
