Los Angeles, CA<\/strong> – Today, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Janice Hahn and coauthored by Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath to proclaim June 2026 as Pride Month in Los Angeles County, recognizing the history and contributions of the County’s LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n

“This month, we celebrate the history of Pride, born out of the Stonewall Uprising, but we also celebrate something just as important: the resilience, creativity, and joy of the LGBTQ+ community,”\u00a0said Supervisor Hahn.<\/strong>\u00a0“My hope is that this proclamation as well as the Progress Pride flag flying high over every County building will serve as a reminder to<\/span>\u00a0everyone who may be struggling to find acceptance that they are seen, they are valued, and they are not alone.\u00a0And that Los Angeles County will continue to stand unapologetically with its LGBTQ+ residents.”<\/p>\n

Hahn and Horvath also led the effort in 2023 to fly the Progress Pride Flag over every County facility every June, including over the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, the heart of County government. This year, Hahn held a ceremony on June 1 to raise the Progress Pride Flag at the Greater Whittier LGBTQ+ Center, which she led the effort to open in 2024 in a formerly vacant County facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cJune is Pride Month, and Los Angeles County celebrates it fully \u2014 the joy, the community, the hard-won progress, and the work still ahead,\u201d\u00a0said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cTo every member of our LGBTQ+ community and every ally: we see you, we stand with you, and we\u2019re not backing down. Love is love. Happy Pride, LA County.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cProclaiming June as Pride Month matters because it is a clear sign that Los Angeles County will always stand in solidarity with its LGBTQ+ community. It reaffirms the Supervisors and all County Departments commitment to active allyship and inclusivity. Our County is strengthened by compassion, and all of our lives are enriched through diversity. We are and always will be more powerful when we stand together and the LGBTQ+ Commission is committed to uplifting and actively supporting the equity, equality, and brilliance of all LGBTQ+ people here in the County,\u201d\u00a0said Sunitha Menon, Executive Director of the Los Angeles County LGBTQ+ Commission,\u00a0<\/strong>which\u00a0advises the Board of Supervisors on issues facing LGBTQ+ residents in Los Angeles County.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles County is home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the nation, with an estimated 665,000 LGBTQ adults living in Los Angeles County, nearly 9% of the county\u2019s adult population. The County also hosts numerous LGBTQ+ Pride events throughout the month of June and beyond, including County-funded Pride events at 59 of the County’s parks, in collaboration with local groups.
